本国际标准规定了缩写连载文件标题的规则，如适用，还规定了缩写非连载文件标题的规则使用拉丁、西里尔和希腊字母的语言。本国际标准也是本标准的基础通过ISSN网络建立标题词缩写。

This International Standard gives rules for abbreviating titles of serials and, if appropriate, non-serial documents inlanguages using the Latin, Cyrillic and Greek alphabets. This International Standard also serves as the basis for theestablishment of title word abbreviations by the ISSN Network.
